It’s been 13 months since my surgery and I’m really struggling. I can’t wear a bra or any type of compression on my bilateral mastectomy scar. I’m retired and have lots of time on my hands. Can I use the medi-pads to massage my scar? If it breaks up adhesions it seems logical to me. Please advise. And thank you so much for being here for us!🙏

Thank you so much 😭😭 I was losing my mind thinking that my cancer has come back. I mean, I know it is a possibility but I've had my lumpectomy in January end. My last day of radiation therapy was on 27 March and around the first week of May, I slowly started getting all the symptoms you have listed. The area is very tender to touch and the skin has become quite thick too. Anyway, I now know that I need to massage it gently. Once again, thank you so much. ❤

I had 25 rounds of radiation last year that completed in 02/23 on my left side. In September 2023 I began to experience what feels like Muscle spasms in my left side rib cage. It feels like a Charlie horse like you would I have gotten in my calf but in my left rib cage. It’s painful and makes it difficult to breathe. Could this be what you are talking about?

It's absolutely RIDICULOUS that Oncologists and Cancer Radiologists don't tell you about RIF and Lymphedema. Why you may ask??? Sadly because they apparently DON'T KNOW!!!!! Exactly 3 weeks after my final chemo session (I'd had a month of radiation therapy on left breast, which ended 2 months before start of chemo) I awoke one morning to a hugely swollen, and hot breast, with reddened, orange peel appearance of skin. My oncologists didn't know what it was and prescribed anti-biotics. That did nothing, so----they prescribed MORE antibiotics!! By this time I'd been devouring anything I could research on the web (very little at the time: four years ago). I was sure I had Lymphedema, and possible RIF. I couldn't convince my oncology team. I knew immediate treatment was critical and felt in despair. I contacted the head of the hospital Cancer Radiation unit who had designed my radiation treatment. She is even older than I am (70 at that time) but she's seen a LOT, and she called my Onco and told her I needed treatment immediately. She is well respected in medical community and thank God, they agreed to approve a referral to a lymphedema therapist in the hospital. I was in treatment for much of the year for three years, and the treatment along with instruction on self administered massage and exercises, use of pitpaks that the therapist used in session, and Swell spots (which I researched sources for and bought to use for myself at both brightlifedirect (for Swellspots to insert in my bra for continuous passive massage) and bandagesplus.com (for JoviPak pitpaks and compression garments), I gradually experienced much improvement. Presently I only experience infrequent and brief, though intense intracostal cramping around the left half of my rib cage at breast level. The onset of cramping was more severe, longer lasting and MUCH more painful when it initially began occurring in year three. The massage and stretching exercises given to me by my therapist helped a great deal, as did losing 15 pounds. I would urge any cancer patient who is overweight, as I am, to work (exercise and healthy eating) towards a healthy goal weight. Do your body a favor and give it it's best chance to heal. Personally I have been on moderate Keto diet (I do eat a variety of non-carb laden vegetables), and found that a daily 16-8 intermittent fast is incredible at moderating my health and well-being. My bloodwork also is great (after being abysmal during and for a YEAR following chemo). I'm so glad to see more information available from professionals like you to help patients. It's terrible to have a life-threatening disease, then suffer a life-long illness as a consequence of your treatment which your doctor's are ignorant of and non-supportive for you. This is a long post, but perhaps my experience can help someone else identify what they are going through so they can find help. Putting a name to what you are experiencing can help you research for yourself, and put you in a more informed position if/when you have to argue for proper care. I wish you all wellness.

Omg, thank you......i have been in so much discomfort since surgery in late February but the only response I've had is 'thats normal, dont worry' but no one has explained why i am numb and so bloody uncomfortable in my armpit. Half the time i just feel my care team are going through the motions and ticking off their To Do List for Jules!!! Your explanations have given me an overwhelming sense of relief and that i can start to look forward to going back to being normal again. The hardest part of my journey to date has been the pain and numbness in the armpit and inside my arm, as well as not being told by the surgeon these are the things to expect.......i shall be following your channel closely. Thank you ❤️
